Guatemala coffee growers sell crop at highest price averaged in Central America this year

Guatemala coffee growers have sold their crop at the highest average price in Central America this year.
A preliminary report on the 10th Internet coffee auction, which was organized by the country’s Coffee National Association, says bidding began at $4 per pound of coffee and reached an average price of $13.01. Costa Rican coffee had had the highest price with $11.97 per pound.
El Injerto coffee farm in Guatemala got the highest bid Tuesday with $45 per pound.
El Injerto owner Arturo Aguirre says he was pleasantly surprised his coffee got such a high bid given the low coffee prices around the world and the problems Guatemalan growers have faced.
In February, the Guatemalan government said coffee rust had affected 70 per cent of the nation’s crop.
