In a distinct shift of focus from quantity to quality, Tea Board of India is now working for improving the quality of Assam tea.
The board is doing intense meeting with small tea growers underscoring the need for quality leafs, which according to board is important for quality tea.
The board will also move state electricity board for disconnecting of electricity to bought leaf factories not having proper license.
MGVK Bhanu, the Chairman of TBI who was in Assam told ET, «Tea leaf and made tea has to comply with the standard of Tea Board. «We will ensure that bad tea is not sent to market.»
Assam government has put on hold issue of fresh registration of BLFs as a quality control measure.
